Predaceous Hymenoptera feed on all stages of development, but most often they attack the immature stages of their victims. The egg stage is vulnerable to attack by predators and sometimes species that are usually classified as parasitic behave as predators. For instance, many groups of .

The Tenthredinoidea are the dominant superfamily of sawflies within the Symphyta, containing some 8, species worldwide, primarily in the family known larvae are phytophagous, and a number are considered pests.
The included extant families share the distinctive features of a medially narrowed pronotum, paired protibial spurs, and the loss of the transverse mesonotal : Insecta. The Orussidae or the parasitic wood wasps represent a small family of sawflies ("Symphyta").
Currently, about 85 extant and four fossil species are known. They take a key position in phylogenetic analyses of Hymenoptera, because they form the sister taxon of the megadiverse apocritan wasps, and the common ancestor of Orussidae + Apocrita invented parasitism for the first time in course of the Class: Insecta.

Tenthredinoidea definition is - a superfamily (suborder Chalastogastra) of hymenopterous insects comprising the sawflies and being coextensive with Tenthredinidae in its broadest use.
